William Patrick Cooney Iii
Mar 11, 1954 — Aug 10, 2025
William Patrick “Pat” Cooney III, age 71, passed away on August 10, 2025, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Born on March 11, 1954, in Savannah, Georgia, Pat lived a life filled with joy, compassion, and an infectious sense of humor that brightened every room he entered.
Pat’s life was a beautiful example of kindness wrapped in laughter. He was known for his perfectly timed jokes and quick wit—traits that endeared him to friends, family, and even strangers. No matter the circumstance, Pat maintained a positive outlook that inspired those around him to find light even in the darkest moments.
A devoted husband to Harriet Smith Cooney and loving father to Emily Cooney Boyd (Jason) and William Cooney (Claire), Pat cherished his family above all else. He found immense joy in being “Papa” to his grandchildren: Anna Cooney; Ashleigh and Emily Boyd; and Jack William Cooney. His siblings—Sharon Witt, James C. Cooney, and Mary Turman—shared a lifetime of memories with him that will be treasured forever.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, William Patrick Cooney Jr. and Justine Cooney, as well as his infant sister Marie Cooney.
Professionally, Pat dedicated his life to helping others as a respiratory therapist. With a rare blend of skill and compassion, he cared for patients both young and old across area hospitals. His warm smile and gentle demeanor brought comfort to countless families during vulnerable times. Eventually realizing a lifelong dream, Pat opened his own business—a testament to his determination and entrepreneurial spirit.
Outside of work, Pat’s passions were as vibrant as his personality. He loved music and festivals where he could be found tapping his foot to the beat or striking up conversations with new friends. A true bargain hunter at heart, he had an uncanny ability to find the best deals—whether it was a boat, car, or motorcycle—and took great pride in each discovery.
Water was Pat’s happy place. Whether it was the lake or the ocean—or anything in between—he felt most at peace near its shores. When not on the water, he could often be found buying, selling, or riding one of his beloved motorcycles—a pastime that brought him both freedom and joy.
Sweet-natured and full of life, Pat left an indelible mark on every heart he touched. His legacy is one of laughter shared freely, love given generously, and a zest for life that never dimmed. A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at a later date.
Sail on, Pat—you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
