Barbara A Craig
April 4, 1947 — May 29, 2025
Barbara A. Craig, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at her home in Chapin, South Carolina with her family alongside her. She was 78.
Born on April 4, 1947, in Robbinsville, Graham County, North Carolina. Barbara spent many years in Salem, Oregon before settling back in South Carolina. As a devoted registered nurse, she dedicated over 30+ years to health care while employed by Salem Hospital in Salem, Oregon where she touched countless lives with her compassion and professionalism.
She was the cherished 7th child and daughter of Clercy and John Medlin and the last surviving sibling of eight. Barbara is survived by her loving children: daughter, Misty Schaefer Rae, her husband, Alan and daughter, Elizabeth; her son, Timothy Schaefer, wife, Heather and their children: son, Cy Syverson and husband, Bjorn; son, Tre’ Schaefer and daughter, Sabrina Schaefer; as well as many other family members who held a special place in her heart.
Barbara found joy in travel, gardening, spending time on the Oregon coast and Smokey Mountains of the Carolinas. She loved good food and laughing over frequent lunches with long time dear friends, Judy Wells and Barbara Schuster. There are too many to name them all whom she shared wonderful adventures with along her journey as she never met a stranger. Her warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private celebration of her life will be held by her family. In honor of her memory, loved ones are invited to plant a flower, donate to the Diabetes Association or reflect quietly on a cherished moment shared with Barbara.
