George Nolan Gardner Jr.
May 13, 1958 — Apr 15, 2026
George Nolan Gardner Jr., 67, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away April 15, 2026, at Prisma Health Richland, Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on May 13, 1958, in Chester, South Carolina, to Nolan and Bob Perry (Seagle) Gardner.
George was a graduate of Winthrop University, where he developed lifelong friendships with many. Prior to his legendary Winthrop days, he cultivated relationships from his early days in Chester and later in Fort Mill, SC. He spoke fondly of his 29706 Posse. The establishment and maintenance of friendships was a pattern in George’s life, which speaks volumes about his loving, caring nature.
George was adored by family and friends alike. George’s most treasured loves were his children and grandchildren. His favorite place was having his toes in the sand at Myrtle Beach, surrounded by family. He was very involved with coaching activities throughout the years, and he also loved working with the youth at First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, SC.
George’s first and only allegiance to college football was to his Clemson Tigers. He never wavered in his support of his Tigers, even during the lean years.
George is survived by his two sisters, Cecelia (Del) and Katherine; daughter, Morgan; son, Taylor (Jenny); and two grandchildren, Addison and Nolan.
He was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Willie Mae McCarty Cook, and his parents, Nolan and Bob Perry Gardner.
A celebration of life service will be held at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, 201 Lake Murray Boulevard in Irmo, SC, on Tuesday, April 21st, at 3:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends in the church atrium immediately after the service.
