Herbert Padgett Jr.

Herbert Padgett, Jr., 75, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025. He was born on January 1, 1950, to Idell Ashby Gorham and the late Herbert “Hamp” Padgett.

Herbert was a proud graduate of North District Training School in Varnville, SC, Class of 1968.

Herbert was known for his quiet and reserved demeanor. He enjoyed fishing and often spent time near the water.

 He is survived by his wife, Maebelle Nelson Padgett, and six children:

· Demetra Thomas (Tyrone) of Columbia, SC

· Eric Mulligan, Sr. (Loretta) of Ridgeland, SC

· Phyllis Mayner (Maurice) of Estill, SC

· Chyvonne Michele Robinson of Beaufort, SC

· Napoleon Nelson of Columbia, SC

· Antonio Polite of Columbia, SC

He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Jaterris Padgett, Dewoindra Mulligan, Alexsis Mulligan, Tra’Von Williams, Eric Mulligan, Jr., Jamari Padgett, Te’Nya Thomas, Daiquan Green, Janiya Green, Taleya Green, RaeLynn Williams, and Madison Polite. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren.

Surviving siblings include Virginia Garrett (Randy) of Rincon, GA, Helen Simmons (Michael) of Ridgeland, SC, Gwen Matthews (Joseph) of Schaefferstown, PA, Denise Haines (Angelo) of Philadelphia, PA, Cynthia Padgett of Philadelphia, PA, Yvonne Padgett of Mays Landing, NJ, and Lawrence Padgett of Clearmont, FL.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
