John E. Carr

John E. Carr, Jr. passed away on January 11, 2021 in Columbia, SC. Born in 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late John Carr, Sr. and Anna May Kullman Carr. He was predeceased by Dolores Centurione Carr, his wife of 54 years.
John attended high school in Philadelphia and eventually worked for Steele Heddle, a manufacturer of textile equipment, for over 37 years. During his career there, he was selected to help re-locate the company to Greenville, SC where he hired and trained new employees. During his time living in SC, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, and creating beautiful oil and watercolor art. He taught art classes at various locations in Greenville. He and Dolores were active in their church, Prince of Peace, in Greenville. John enjoyed being an usher there for many years.
He is survived by two sons, John Carr III (Mary Ann) of Lansdale, PA, and David Carr (Jill) of Blythewood, SC, four granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren.
John will be laid to rest at Graceland East Memorial Park, Greenville, SC where the family will have a graveside service at a future date. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Ave, Greenville, SC 29605 or to a charity of one's choosing.
