John Edward "Johnny" Ransom Jr.

January 17, 1948 — June 16, 2025

Johnny Ransom, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025. He was 77 years old.

Born on January 17, 1948, Johnny was the eldest child of the late John Edward Ransom and Frances Adams Ransom. He grew up in Cordele, Georgia.

In 1967, Johnny married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Pleaslyn. Their marriage, marked by deep devotion and enduring love, spanned an extraordinary 57 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised two children.

Johnny earned a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Georgia in 1970, a reflection of his lifelong appreciation for design, nature, and hard work. In 1979, he and his family moved to South Carolina, where he founded and built a successful landscape and irrigation business.

After retiring, Johnny found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed traveling, discovering great food and friendly people — especially at local restaurants in small towns.  He proudly drove school buses for the local school district, happily transporting students to field trips and sporting events.  Johnny will be remembered for his warm smile, strong work ethic, and unshakable commitment to family.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pleaslyn Ransom, of Chapin, SC, son, Jeremy Ransom (Stephanie) of Athens, GA, daughter, Jarrett Ransom (Josh Scott) of Tempe, AZ, four grandchildren, Madeline Ransom, Jonathan Ransom, Tanner Ransom, and Kennedy Scott, two sisters, Pamela Ransom and Kim McFarland, nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Georgia 4-H Foundation: 306 Hoke Smith Annex, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602 or online at https://georgia4hfoundation.org/johnny-ransom/
