Tony Leonard Strawhorn
Sep 21, 1944 — Jun 23, 2026
Tony Leonard Strawhorn (81) of Cameron, SC, passed on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, succumbing to glioblastoma at his assisted living residence in Chapin, SC.
Tony was born on September 21, 1944, to Jeanette and Curtis Strawhorn and grew up in Ware Shoals, SC, with siblings Peggy Strawhorn (predeceased), Yvonne Craft (Mike, predeceased), Barry Strawhorn (Millie), and Debbie Cottingim (Gary, predeceased; Dan Bowling). He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Ann (Long), sons David Strawhorn (Merideth) and Michael Strawhorn (Valerie), his five grandchildren who brought him so much joy (Bailey, Elliot, Wyndham, Patrick, and Everett), and six nieces and nephews.
Tony attended Anderson College before serving in the United States Army. After returning from service, he graduated from Charleston Baptist College. Then he went on to a career with the State of South Carolina where he retired as a deputy commissioner with the SC Department of Corrections.
Tony loved the outdoors, and he and Peggy enjoyed travelling and camping across Europe while he was stationed there in the Army. After retirement Tony moved from Irmo, SC, to his lake house on Lake Marion where he was able to pursue his true passion – fishing. He spent most days in his boat fishing and providing his catch to everyone he knew. This was truly his happy place.
Tony was an active member of Pine Grove Lutheran Church in Lone Star where he served in the choir and on church council. His faith was strong and he was at peace with going to be with his Lord and Savior.
Tony had so many friends that he continued to keep up with throughout his life dating back to childhood, through his career, friends he made in retirement, and at his church. He also loved the many canine companions he had through the years.
His family is thankful for the friends, pastors and caregivers who were always visiting and checking on him during these past few months. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pine Grove Lutheran Church at 2688 McCords Ferry Road, Lone Star, SC 29030.
