Wilma Johanna Szczechowski

Wilma J. Szczechowski, 74, of west Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Wilhelm Gerardus Jungen and Jansje Reehorst Hollis.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Daniel J. Szczechowski, daughter, Monica Sutton, son, Jonathyn Szczechowski, brothers, Ronnie Hollis and Chris Hollis, sisters, Mary Ann Chastain and Alicia Thiers. She was also the proud grandmother of Isabella and Gabryella Szczechowski, Khristina Bayless, Reuben Sutton, and great-grandmother of Natilyee, David Henry IV, and Lila Bushey, and various cousins.

During the families’ military travels to Europe and various locations in the United States, she worked as a Recreational Specialist for the Army Morale Welfare and Recreation Programs. She enjoyed working with the diversified group of people found in the military communities and with various nationalities in Europe during combined armed training exercises.

While no formal services are planned, the family will have a private memorial before spreading her ashes in the Great Smoky Mountains outside Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where she loved to spend time.
