Brent Compton

Brent Compton, 78, passed away on April 9, 2026, at his home in Nampa, Idaho.

Brent was born in Boise on December 13, 1947, to Dan and Bonnie Compton. He grew up in Southeast Boise with his older brother, Bruce, and younger sister, Katherine, attending Garfield Elementary, East Junior High, and Boise High School. Brent held fond memories of playing baseball for Curly’s Chevron and football for the Boise Braves.

Brent attended the University of Idaho, where he earned a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1970 and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. A close friend introduced him to the love of his life, Kris. After graduation, Brent and Kris were married and began their life together in Boise. Brent fulfilled his military obligation with the Idaho National Guard and began a career in agricultural lending, which took them to Jerome. It was there that their first two children, Tyler and Jill, were born. The family returned to Boise, where Brent joined and eventually took over his father’s business, Gem Meat Packing Co. Brent and Kris completed their family with the birth of their daughter, Molly.

Brent and Kris were charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where they formed many lifelong friendships. Brent had a deep love for the outdoors. Summers were often spent waterskiing, camping, fishing, or running along the Boise Greenbelt—simple moments that became lifelong memories for those who shared them with him.

In retirement, Brent’s greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren. Each of them carries their own favorite memory, most often outside, doing something active, laughing, and learning from their grandfather. He cherished time at the family cabin in Cascade and embraced the opportunity to travel the world, especially during the years his daughter and her husband lived in Germany.

Brent is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kris; his children, Tyler (Ashley) Compton, Jill (Cameron) Cryder, and Molly (Émile) Pitre; and his seven grandchildren, Tanner, Carter, Hadley, Caden, Eloise, Grace, and Anneliese. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce (Karen) Compton, his sister, Katherine Compton, and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 27, at 1:00 PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4848 N. Five Mile Road, Boise, ID 83713.

Brent will be remembered for his deep faith and his love of people: his family, his friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the memories he created, and the quiet ways he let you know exactly where you stood, even with just a raised eyebrow. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
