Dennis Dean Gunter, a devoted family man, respected veteran, and cherished member of his community, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Boise, Idaho, after a courageous battle with a long-term illness. Born on April 21, 1953, in Portland, Oregon, Dennis’s life was marked by dedication to both his country and his loved ones.

Dennis graduated from Franklin High School in Portland, where he developed a lifelong love for baseball, playing on a team coached by his father. This early passion for sports was complemented by his fondness for the great outdoors; he found joy in camping and fishing activities shared with family, experiences that would continue to enrich his life long after his youth.

In 1975, Dennis answered the call to service when he was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany, serving honorably until his discharge in 1979. Following his active duty, he continued his commitment to the nation by working in construction with his family while serving in the National Guard. Demonstrating exceptional dedication, Dennis re-enlisted for active duty in 1985 and proudly served until his retirement in 2002.

After retiring from military service, Dennis embraced a quieter pace of life in Boise, Idaho. He devoted his time to gardening, camping, and fishing—pursuits which reflected his enduring love for nature and the simpler pleasures in life.

Dennis is survived by his devoted wife, children, grandchildren, sister, and brother, all of whom remember him as a steadfast and loving presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, who undoubtedly played a guiding role throughout his life.
