Norma Hellyer

May 29, 1954 — Jul 11, 2026

It is with profound sadness yet grateful hearts that we announce the passing of Norma Hellyer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life on July 11, 2026, at the age of 72. Norma peacefully entered eternal rest, in her sleep at the Timber Springs Transitional Care facility in Boise, Idaho, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Born on May 29, 1954, in Fairfield, California, Norma was the cherished daughter of Alice Willis, who predeceased her. She moved to Boise, Idaho, where she attended Boise High School, graduating in 1972 as the cherished Choir Sweetheart alongside her high school sweetheart, Leo Hellyer. The two were united in holy matrimony on December 28, 1972, during a record-breaking cold spell in Boise, embarking on a remarkable journey of love and partnership that spanned over 53 years.

Norma's life was characterized by her unwavering faith and dedication to serving others. A proud member of First Baptist Church, aka True Hope Church Downtown since childhood, she spent 20 years as an integral part of the Boise Volunteer FamilyLife Ministry Team. Her heart for service extended to her role as the Weekend Cook at the City Light Home for Women & Children, where she touched countless lives with her kindness and culinary talents.

As a devoted military wife, Norma supported her husband, Leo, during his 22 1/2 years in the United States Air Force. Her strength, love, and understanding were the backbone of their family, and she excelled in guiding preschoolers, Special Education Students, Girl Scouts and their leaders, married couples, and participants of Celebrate Recovery. Her commitment to helping those in need extended to the homeless and those battling addiction, always serving with humility and grace.

Norma's life was enriched by her passion for tent camping in the beautiful settings of Ponderosa State Camp in McCall, Idaho, and Cathedral Pines Camp in Ketchum, Idaho. She was a voracious reader and found joy in playing games and piecing together puzzles, activities she often shared with her beloved grandchildren, Nevaeh, Rachel, Myah, and Samuel Harris.

Norma's loving spirit is survived by her devoted husband, Leo Hellyer, her dear daughters Jenny Ferhn and her husband, Brian Ferhn, and Alicia Harris and her husband, Matt Harris. She leaves behind her treasured grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom will hold her memory close to their hearts.

A celebration of Norma's life will be held on July 23, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at True Hope Church Downtown, located at 607 N. 13th Street, Boise, Idaho. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring the remarkable life of a woman who gave so much to others.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Norma's memory to the City Light Home for Women & Children in Boise, Idaho, an organization that benefited greatly from her compassion and service.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the phenomenal, caring, and loving staff of Timber Springs Transitional Care in Boise, Idaho, and to Norma's close friends who provided comfort during her final days. Norma's life was a testament to her faith, love, and dedication, and she will forever be remembered as a woman of God with a caring and loving spirit, who served quietly and humbly in the background. She will be dearly missed, but her love will continue to guide those she left behind.
