Madelyn Rai Briggs
September 14, 2009 — May 31, 2026
In Loving Memory of Madelyn Rai Briggs
Madelyn Rai Briggs, age 16, of Ruskin, Florida, passed away on May 31, 2026. Born on September 14, 2009, in Cleveland, Ohio, Madelyn brought immeasurable joy, creativity, and love to all who knew her throughout her far-too-brief but beautiful life.
Madelyn had just completed her sophomore year at Lennard High School in the Collegiate Program, where she distinguished herself as an exceptional student. Ranked 14th in her class. She excelled in every subject she pursued with particular gifts in mathematics, science, writing, and art. Her curiosity, determination, and love of learning inspired both her teachers and classmates, and her future shone brightly with promise.
A true artist at heart, Madelyn found beauty and expression in countless forms. Whether sculpting, painting, sketching, drawing, or creating on canvas, she approached every project with imagination and passion. Her sketchbooks overflowed with ideas, dreams, and glimpses into the remarkable creativity that defined her. Through her art, she left behind pieces of herself that will continue to inspire and comfort those who loved her.
Madelyn was also an avid reader whose thirst for knowledge and adventure seemed endless. Rarely was she reading just one book at a time; instead, she often immersed herself in multiple stories and series, finding joy in every page she turned. Her love of learning extended far beyond the classroom and reflected the depth of her thoughtful and inquisitive spirit.
Madelyn was a proud two-year member of the Lennard High School Varsity Volleyball Team. She was a dedicated member of the Tampa United Volleyball Academy 16 Black Team, where she spent five wonderful years growing not only as an athlete but as a teammate and friend. The coaches and teammates who supported and encouraged her became an extended family, and the memories they shared together will be cherished forever.
Madelyn embraced life's simple pleasures with enthusiasm. She loved all things food, delighted in photographing memorable meals, and especially treasured home-cooked dinners shared with family. Whether creating art, reading a new novel, competing on the volleyball court, or gathering around the table with loved ones, she brought joy, kindness, and authenticity wherever she went.
Though her time with us was far too short, Madelyn's life was filled with purpose, love, creativity, and accomplishment. The impact she made on her family, friends, teammates, teachers, and all who knew her will continue to be felt for years to come. Her beautiful spirit lives on in the countless memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she gave so freely.
Madelyn is survived by her loving father, Matthew Briggs; her devoted mother, Colleen Royer Briggs; her beloved sister, Charlotte Briggs; her grandparents, Raymond and Karen Briggs; her grandparents, Mark and M. Colleen Royer; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
While we grieve the loss of someone so deeply loved, we also celebrate the extraordinary young woman Madelyn was. Her creativity, intelligence, compassion, determination, and radiant smile remain gifts that can never be taken away.
She will be missed beyond words and loved beyond measure.
