Betty Lou Minten
May 4, 1931 — April 19, 2026
Betty Lou Minten, 94, passed away April 19, 2026, at her home in Salem. Betty was born May 4, 1931, in Sublimity to the late Irvin and Hilda (Starr) Schumacher, who were farmers.
Betty was married to her husband, Cletus, for 69 years. Together they lived for many years on a small farm in Turner, where they raised cattle and Marionberries, and maintained a large orchard and garden. Betty retired from the Stayton Telephone Company after nearly 35 years of service. She was a devout Catholic and a dedicated and loving mother who raised six children.
Family was very important to Betty, and her smile and laugh would light up any room. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, as well as cooking, baking, traveling, crocheting, puzzling, and playing games—especially Yahtzee. Betty was happiest when surrounded by those she loved.
Betty will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered for her kindness, love, and the great memories she shared with all who knew her. Her Catholic faith guided her throughout her life.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus, and her infant daughter, Marla Joy. She is survived by her children: Roger (Cathy), Denise (Dave †) Bouska, Dennis (Susan), Janell (Dan) Brainard, Danette Baley, and Irvin (Heidi). Betty is also survived by her brother, Darrell (Elsie) Schumacher; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held Saturday, April 25 at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Salem. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Stayton. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
