Dr. Maury Lee Fradkin
October 25, 1945 — April 17, 2026
Maury Fradkin, MD, 80, passed away on April 17, 2026, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and married Janice Hubert Fradkin in 1967. He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1971 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1971 to 1975. He served in the United States Army as a Major from 1975 to 1977. After the Army, he returned to Atlanta and opened his own medical practice, retiring in 1999. In 2015, Maury and Janice relocated to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
In retirement, he volunteered as a docent at Zoo Atlanta, Georgia Aquarium, as well as tutored Hebrew for the adult B’not Mitzvah classes at Congregation Beth Yam on Hilton Head Island. Maury was a constant artist who enjoyed drawing, painting, knitting, ceramics, and needlepoint. In his later years, he gardened. He was an avid reader, stamp collector, and bread baker, and earlier in life had been a runner, rock climber and a black belt in Karate.
Maury was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Calvin Fradkin. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Janice Fradkin; his sons, David (Hila) and Mike (Dawn); his grandchildren, Gaya and Matan Fradkin; his brothers Gary (Carol), Howard (Pete Kengetter), and Steven (Barbara); and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Sandi Block and Alan and Diane Hubert.
The funeral service will take place on Sunday, April 19, at 2:00 PM at Congregation Beth Yam, with internment to follow at Six Oaks Cemetery. The family will sit Shiva on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (4/19-4/21) at the Fradkin home with services beginning at 6:00 PM each evening.
