Kenneth James Kerr died in his home on April 11, 2025, on Hilton Head Island. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Kerr was born on November 23, 1943, in Milford, DE to his parents, Vernon William and Martha Hilda Kerr. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1965. He married Kryl Karen Mauch in 1970. They resided in Los Angeles, CA and Midland, MI before moving to Hong Kong in 1985, where Ken spent ten years working and traveling throughout southeast Asia for the Dow Chemical Company. After nearly a thirty-year career with Dow Chemical, Ken worked in the field of geothermal energy, for Magma Power and the Oxbow Corporation.
Ken had a spirit for adventure and embraced new opportunities with great determination and enthusiasm. He led by example, and made others feel welcome and comfortable in his presence. He and his family traveled the world. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh.
Upon retirement, he joined the Peace Corps and taught business courses at the Siberian Aerospace Academy in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. He wrote two novels, earned his life Masters in Bridge, and at age 75, began a final adventure driving for Uber in the Hilton Head area. He was an avid golfer and sailor, who enjoyed spending his summers with family at his cottage on Lake Charlevoix, in northern Michigan.
Mr. Kerr is survived by his wife, Kryl; and his daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and John Fitzsimmons. He was a lifelong dog lover, who will be remembered with love, gratitude, respect, and admiration.
Mr. Kerr will be cremated, and a memorial will take place in northern Michigan in July 2025. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Hilton Head Humane Society, P.O. Box 2179, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925, or your local animal rescue association.
