Riley James Joseph Mccracken

December 29, 2004 — March 8, 2026

Riley James Joseph McCracken, 21, passed away tragically on March 8, 2026, in a train accident while on spring break in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Born on December 29, 2004, in Campbell County, Kentucky, Riley spent part of his childhood in Cincinnati before his family settled on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where he lived from sophomore year of high school, onward. Riley attended Hilton Head High School and later earned his associate’s degree from Georgia Military College. He had recently been sworn in to serve his country in the United States Air Force and was preparing to begin that journey this spring.

Riley had a natural gift for connecting with people and never met a stranger. He loved football, basketball, music, and any gathering where he could laugh, make friends, and bring people together. His energy, humor, and loyalty to those he loved will be remembered by everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Riley is survived by his loving parents, Maria McCracken and Troy McCracken; his brothers, Samuel McCracken, Jack McCracken, Maxwell McCracken, William McCracken, Chase McCracken, Tyliek Smith, Cameron Bent along with his grandparents, Arlene and Clinton Nichting. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Thomas Nichting, and his grandmother, Maxine McCracken.

Visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Hilton Head Island on Thursday, March 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be private and reserved for immediate family only.

In honor of Riley’s life and spirit, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Carolina’s: https://est.event.stjude.org/ELP/FLEX/Donation

Riley’s life, though far too short, was filled with laughter, friendship, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rydog:

The loudest laugh

in the quietest room,

The fearless kid

who chased the wind

like it owed him something.

The little brother

who grew up too fast

but never lost

that wild spark in his eyes.

You were the joke

in the middle of hard days,

the smile that showed up

when we needed it most.

Some people pass through life quietly.

You never did.

You lived loud.

You loved big.

And every one of us

is better for having known you.

We will carry your stories,

your laughter,

and your spirit with us

for the rest of our lives.

Rest easy, Rydog.

We love you forever.
