William Dewaine Walston Jr
February 12, 1936 — June 8, 2026
Celebrating the Life of William Dewaine “Bill” Walston
With gratitude for a life well lived and confidence in the promises of Jesus Christ, we celebrate the life of William Dewaine “Bill” Walston, who, after a brief illness, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at TidePointe on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He was 90 years old.
Bill was born on February 12, 1936. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1960 before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army. During four years of military service, he distinguished himself as an officer, attaining the rank of Captain before receiving an honorable discharge in 1969.
On September 7, 1963, Bill married the love of his life, Sharon Ann Brandt, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Branford, Connecticut. Their marriage became a beautiful testament to faith, devotion, and partnership. Together they built a life centered on family, love, and Christian values, celebrating sixty-three years of marriage last year.
Following his military service, Bill began his professional career with United States Steel Corporation in 1963. Over the next thirty-six years, he held a variety of accounting and human resources leadership roles with U.S. Steel, U.S. Chemicals, and Aristech Chemical Corporation. Through hard work, integrity, and steady leadership, Bill earned the respect of colleagues throughout his career, ultimately retiring as Corporate Controller of Aristech Chemical Corporation in April 1999.
While Bill was proud of his professional accomplishments, those closest to him knew that his greatest priorities were his faith and his family. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ whose life reflected humility, kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to others. Whether as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, colleague, or friend, Bill led by quiet example and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
In 2018, Bill and Sharon relocated from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to TidePointe on Hilton Head Island, where they enjoyed the companionship of friends and the support of a caring community.
He is preceded in death by his sister Carol Sabia, and his brothers Edward and Mark Walston.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Ann Walston; his sons, Keith William Walston (Laura) and Scott Robert Walston (Tammy); his brother David Walston, and sisters Alice Lehr and Janet Stonick; his grandchildren, Caitlin Coe Klepper, Hunter A. Walston, William Brandt Walston, Ryan Scott Walston, and Megan Camille Walston; and his great-grandchildren, Grayson Gene Walters and Colten Keith Walters, and many nieces and nephews.
Though our hearts grieve his passing, we rejoice in knowing that Bill's faith has become fulfilled and that he has heard the words every faithful Christian longs to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” His legacy of faith, integrity, dedication, and love will continue to live on through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.
Bill's family takes comfort in the assurance that through faith in Jesus Christ, death is not the end but the beginning of eternal life in the presence of God.
A Service of Remembrance led by the Rev. Dr. William Ward will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church, with a reception immediately afterward in the Fellowship Hall to celebrate Bill’s life.
All who knew and loved Bill are invited to join in celebrating the memory of this remarkable man—a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, respected colleague, treasured friend, and a quiet example of integrity, humility, and grace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill’s honor to the TidePointe Educational Fund or a charity of your choice.
