Amy Patricia Miller

August 11, 1956 — May 30, 2026

Amy Miller, 69, of Monument, passed away on Saturday, May 30th in her home, lovingly cared for by her husband Greg and daughters Kim, Jen, Shannon and Becky. She will be remembered by anyone she met as being a bright light of positivity, passion, selflessness, and action. She knew some things wouldn’t get done unless she stepped up and did them, and she never shied away from the opportunity. Her dedication to helping others leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew her.

She was born on August 11, 1956 in Downers Grove, Illinois, to Robert and Roberta Knaus Olp, the sixth of 11 children. She graduated as Salutatorian of the class of 1974 from Benet Academy and then from the University of Illinois Pharmacy School in Chicago in 1979, earning a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with honors. After marrying Greg in 1984, her life’s roles quickly expanded, immediately becoming a military wife and soon after, a mother. Greg’s Air Force assignments led them to Utah, Virginia, Ohio, and California. As a natural community-builder, she was always there on move-in day for new neighbors with baked goods and a smile.

After having 3 daughters, she felt that a full-time job required too much of her time and she decided to stay home to raise them. Once her fourth daughter started elementary school, Amy took the opportunity to go back to school for her teaching credential in 2005. That led to a second career in education, spanning 12 years at Park Western Place Elementary, both at the classroom and administrative levels. More than just a teacher of curriculum, she had an innate ability to recognize an individual’s strengths and help them see it in themselves. This personalized encouragement changed the trajectories of innumerable students, parents, and fellow teachers.

Retiring from the school coincided with a move to Monument, Colorado, and left her with some free time. She joined the Gleneagle Women’s Club and quickly stepped into roles as both Vice President and President.

Amy’s bravery was apparent in the face of her cancer diagnosis in November 2024. She underwent a craniotomy and then both chemotherapy and radiation. After successfully eradicating all traces within a year, she and Greg traveled and enjoyed time with family. The cancer returned in January 2026, and this time she knew she wanted to join a clinical trial with the hope that she could contribute to identifying a viable treatment. Unfortunately the cancer was very aggressive, and she spent her last days supported by hospice at home with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother David, and nephew Bobby Hughes. Those carrying on her legacy of kindness and generosity are her husband, 4 daughters, 5 grandchildren, 9 siblings, and 33 nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Family of Christ Church in Monument, Colorado on Saturday, June 27th at 10 am. Attendees are welcome to reflect her enthusiasm for life by wearing something colorful to the service.
