Helen Kanzler Volz

Helen Kanzler Volz, 92, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2025.

Helen was born October 31, 1932, in Platteville, CO. Helen was the daughter of Reinhold and Margaret (Schmidt) Kanzler. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1950. Helen married Vernon Volz on September 4, 1955, in Greeley, CO and was a devoted and loyal wife for 58 years. She and Vernon moved from Denver to Julesburg in 1958 and resided there operating their farm for 40 years. She was a hard worker and helped in the fields driving tractors, preparing meals for harvest, moving vehicles and doing whatever needed to be done. After retiring, they moved to Huntsville, AL in November 1998 to live close to the grandchildren. She relocated back to Colorado in 2019 when the family relocated to Colorado Springs. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon Volz, and her brother, Donald Kanzler.

Helen was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Julesburg and later a member at the United Church of Huntsville. Few people enjoyed nature as much as Helen. She would sit on her porch for hours enjoying God’s beautiful creation. Flowers were Helen’s life-long passion. She grew the most beautiful flowers, especially roses. She was a member of the Denver Rose Society and would compete in arrangement competitions for several years. She really was gifted in this area.

Helen is survived by her son, Alan (Lisa) Volz; grandsons, Sam (Rachel) Volz, Ben (Libby) Volz and grandson, Calvin Volz all of Colorado Springs, sister, Wanita Margheim of Pisgah, Iowa, sister-in-law, Shirley Kanzler, of Fort Lupton, chosen son, Don (Karen) Busse of Brentwood, CA, and many special nieces and nephews.

Funeral service to be held Wednesday, May 21st at Springs Funeral Home in Colorado Springs and the burial on Friday, May 23rd at Hillside Cemetery in Julesburg, CO.
