James "Russ" Russell Johnson

Russ Johnson, age 68, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at a local hospital after a long illness. He had retired after serving his country for more than 31 years in the United States Army. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.James Russell Johnson was born on August 28, 1946 in Marion County, South Carolina to the late Harmon J. and Sallie (Jones) Johnson. He attended schools in Marion and joined the Army at a young age.He was a private man who had worked in the Intelligence and Security Command for most of his Army career. He attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major and was a Life Member of the Knob Hill Chapter 26 of the DAV. He was also a member of TREA. He enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing and especially shopping.He married Cheryl Shaver on June 26, 2002 in Colorado Springs. Cheryl lives in Colorado Springs.He is also survived by his three children, Jim Guevara (Dani Prisco) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jennifer Johnson (Chris Cranmer) of Colorado Springs and John Johnson (Keri) of Shirley, New York.Also surviving are his step-children, Tiffany Chase of Yuma, Arizona and Bridget Chase King (Todd) of Colorado Springs.Russ has a brother, Randolph Johnson (Jeretha) of Columbia, South Carolina; and three sisters, Eddie Listrom (Al) of Columbia, Jeannie Beverly (Charles) of Myrtle Beach and Janice Ward (Dennis Miller) of Myrtle Beach. He has ten grandchildren and two former wives, Josie Horodyski of Milford, Delaware and Joyce Ann McDowell of Colorado Springs.Memorial Service, 1:00PM, Thursday, January 22, 2015, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
