Luh Cheng Tao
February 6, 1922 — April 25, 2018
Luh Cheng Tao, 96, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Born on February 6, 1922 in Wuxi, China, he received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1952. Luh worked as a process and research engineer for several years then found his passion in education at the University of Nebraska in the Department of Chemical Engineering where he was a Regent Professor, former Department Chair, and Emeritus Professor. Inaddition to teaching, he had seven patents and published over fifty research papers. He moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1997. Luh touched many students' lives as a professor and advisor. He was also a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose kindness, patience, guidance, and unconditional love will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Helen Gwoh Quek Tao, who passed away February 1, 2017. Luh leaves a lasting legacy inhis four children, Dr. Alvin H. Tao (Dianne Poel) of Lafayette, Indiana, Dr. Bernard Y. Tao (Ann Minnich) of Lafayette, Indiana, Dr. Clara E. Tao (Douglas Colvin) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Dr.David G. Tao (Michela Marino) of Orlando, Florida; seven grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Tao (Shannon Wilson), Dr. Daniel Tao (Jessica Frasso), Dr. Elizabeth Tao, Dr. Erin Tao (Akshay Thomas), Gregory Tao, Dr. Katherine Colvin (Christopher Schultz), and Dr. Alexandra Colvin; and four great-grandchildren, Madelyn Tao, Olivia Tao, Samantha Schultz, and Jack Schultz. Memorial donations may be sent to the University of Nebraska Foundation for the Department of Chemical Engineering.
