Alice McGinley Johnston, 84, of New Bern, NC, passed away on July 15, 2025. Born on November 23, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA, she worked as a public accountant until retirement. Alice loved the outdoors, especially snowmobiling and sailing. Her sailing adventures took her across Flathead Lake, the Great Lakes, the coasts of Maine and Chesapeake Bay, and halfway through the Great Loop.
She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and volunteered with the Hope Clinic and Hospice. Alice also served as Treasurer for the Oriental Women’s Club, Sailing Club of Oriental, Oriental Dance Club, Forest Shore Homeowners Association, and Jobs for Life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary N. Johnston; parents, James J. and Anna Gallagher McGinley; brothers, James J. and Alan J. McGinley; and granddaughter, Jordan Johnston.
Alice is survived by her children: Robert (Claudia) Heisner, June (Mike) Carrasco, Laurie (David) Needham, and Cheryl Johnston; grandchildren: Jeremy, Trevor (Madison), Jake, Paytyn (Sano), Cheyanne, Kirsten (Matt), and Hayden; and great-grandchildren: Jordan Johnston, Adrian and Anthony Santiago, Mia Jacobo, and Arbor Needham.
