David Brian Weikel
Sep 23, 1947 — May 30, 2026
David Brian Weikel of Woodland Park, Colorado, passed away on May 30, 2026, at Brookdale Monument Valley Park. He was born September 23, 1947, in Evanston, IL, to Robert William and Ruth Irene Weikel (Spute). He graduated from McHenry High School, class of 1966, as well as earned an Associate’s Degree from Elgin Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from Northern Michigan University, a Master’s in Communication from Northern Colorado University, as well as another Master’s in Administration and Supervision from Univewrsity of Phoenix.
He was married to Beth Weikel (Okal) for 55 years and had two sons, Ian Patrick Weikel (deceased), and Chad Timothy Weikel. They were a close-knit family who supported one another in growth opportunities throughout the years.
Dave worked as a teacher and administrator in education in district 49 at Falcon Middle School and High School, district 11 at Palmer Night School and Wasson High School, and district 60 Pueblo West at Swallows Charter Academy. He excelled in helping students in vocational and alternative education, preparing them with practical work-place skills to ensure success.
His programs were usually innovative, as he saw needs and noticed individuals his entire life. He desired to add value to people’s life and experience. His work life was always one of service.
Dave also trained for ministry at Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, CA, and served there as an administrator. When he and his family relocated to Colorado, he planted a church called Faith Alliance Church with the Christian & Missionary Alliance. His ministry emphasized discipleship and Bible teaching to prepare others to use their spiritual gifts in the local church, as well as pioneering outreach programs in the community.
After the death and home-going of their son, Ian, in Iraq, Dave and Beth designed a faith-based grief recovery program called by His design. They developed numerous grace-filled resources and gave workshops locally, nationally, and internationally by partnering with larger organizations that saw this need. Their concept was that loss is inevitable and covers many aspects of life, not just death. They gave people support and hope that the Bible taught that life can come from loss. God is a Redeemer as we trust Him in faith. Wholeness after devastating loss is possible.
Dave enjoyed a number of interests, both before and after retirement from full-time employment, which included horsemanship, coaching various sports, investment real estate, and flying his ultra-light. People who knew him will remember Dave as a humble, kind individual who looked for solutions others may have overlooked. He was a devoted husband and father, and friend. This chapter of Dave’s life came to a close on May 30, but he is now in his forever home worshipping and serving along with multitudes of others their Lord and Savior eternally. His name be praised.
