Kathleen Sue Smith (Facklam)

Kathleen “Kate” Smith Facklam, 74, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on August 11, 2023 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She was born on September 25, 1948, to Lloyd and Bessie Ellen Facklam in Rifle, Colorado.

Kate went to high school at Rifle High School and graduated in 1966.

While in high school, she was part of Future Farmers of America. Kate had many professions in her lifetime including real estate paralegal, real estate sales, manager of a newspaper advertising department, vocational teaching credentials for marketing, president of an escrow company, part-time teacher in real estate and office management, mattress sales, furniture sales and home design, and a Marriott sales agent were she could work from home. She also attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins. Her favorite things to do were to sell real estate and furniture to families looking to beautify their homes.

When her first grandchild, Reese, was born, she doted on her as if she were her own. Reese grew up to be very close to her “Oma” and they spent a lot of time together, just the two of them where they could have some fun girl talk. Kate loved watching the Decorah Eagles online each season to see their eaglets grow to bald eagles. Her Anniversary Edition Jeep Wrangler was one of her most prized possessions, and she had dreamed of having one all her life.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Lloyd W. Facklam; Mother, Bessie Ellen Facklam; and Brother, Lloyd Lee Facklam. 

Kate is survived by her Brother, Jon “Larry” Facklam, Daughter, Erika Ward, Granddaughter, Reese Ward, Son, Colin Smith (Stephanie), Grandsons Ciaran Smith, and Oran Smith, and nephews Dwayne Facklam, Lee Facklam, and Wade Facklam.
