Alice McGirt

February 5, 1937 — May 23, 2026

Born Mary Alice McRae on February 5, 1937, in Maxton, NC to Alice Lee Deaton and Marvin Norman McRae, Alice was the sixth of seven children.

Alice spent the majority of her professional life in the staffing industry, building a respected and accomplished career with companies including Dunhill, Snelling, and Manpower. Driven by determination and an entrepreneurial spirit, she also founded several businesses of her own. Her greatest professional success came with Advanced Temporary Services, which later merged with Gallman Personnel Services (GPS). Prior to her retirement in the early 2000s, Alice served as Vice President and General Manager of GPS, where she mentored and trained many professionals who proudly credit her as one of the best in the industry. Throughout her career, she also held numerous leadership roles within Chambers of Commerce and industry organizations, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers alike.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Earl Winecoff, whom she married in 1957 and who passed away in 1999. Together, they raised two daughters, Deidra and Staci. She was also preceded in death by her parents, as well as three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Deidra (M. Brady Williams) and Staci (Frank Sansone); her grandson, Colin Williams; and five step-grandchildren, Michael, Frank Jason, Ashley, Preston, and Cole. She is also survived by her husband, George Harold “Hal” McGirt, whom she married in 2001, and his children, Lynne and Jennifer. She was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Beth McGirt Adams.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 1PM – 2PM at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, SC. Followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
