Billy Joe Hamlin
Apr 13, 1943 — Jun 22, 2026
Billy Joe Hamlin, 83, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on June 22, 2026.
Born in Anderson County, South Carolina, Billy grew up in Liberty, where he attended and graduated from Liberty High School. His dedication, integrity, and commitment to serving his country were a source of great pride throughout his life.
After his military service, Billy enjoyed spending time woodworking, reading, tending to his yard, square dancing, and traveling with family and friends. He especially loved listening to classic country music, and one of his favorite songs was Hank Snow's “I've Been Everywhere,” a fitting tribute to both his military career and his love of travel.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife, Helga Hamlin; his children, Billy (Jessica), Saskia (TK), and Kai; and his cherished grandchildren, Kinsley, Kaiden, and Evan, all of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sisters Hazel, Phyllis, and Gloria and his brother Mickey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Pauline Hamlin; his brothers, Charles, Milton, Edward, and Ronald; and his sisters, Kathleen, Barbara, and Jean.Billy will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast love for his family, faithful service to his country, and the kindness he shared with those who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
