Thomas Clayton Clamp, Jr.

December 1, 1943 — May 25, 2026

Thomas Clayton Clamp, Jr, age 82, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 in Columbia, SC.

Tom retired from South Carolina Electric & Gas Co where he worked for 50 years. He was a man of few words but had a clever wit. He enjoyed many pursuits over the years, from tinkering with his Corvair, to boating and water skiing on Lake Murray, playing basketball, earning his pilot’s license, and watching his Gamecocks play football and basketball. He enjoyed traveling with Susan, and he surprised us all by becoming a dog lover.

Born in Newberry, SC, he lived most of his life in Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Jean Clamp and by his sister, Peggy Jean Murphree. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan Rivers Clamp, his son David Clamp, his wife Deyfi and their daughter Emilia; his daughter Becky Clamp; his sister Gina Hansen and her husband Cris; his sister Marty Broadnax; his step-grandson Chris Ross and his wife Catherine; his step-granddaughter Caity Ross, her fiancé Jordan Janflone, and their children Ronin and Aleena; and by many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 2pm - 3PM at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family would suggest a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
