Charles Johnson
Oct 2, 1935 — Jul 14, 2026
Charles Johnson of Lexington, South Carolina, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on July 14, 2026, at the age of 90.
He was born on October 2, 1935, to Edith and Charlie Johnson in Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson University in 1957 and went on to serve in the United States Army Reserves. He spent his career at Southern Bell as an electrical engineer and then as a real estate agent after his formal retirement. He married Helen Hubert on October 4, 1959; they had two children and were married for 66 years.
Charles was kind and patient beyond measure. He was generous, quick to make a friend, but never hurried, and had a smile to offer everyone.
He was many things during his long, blessed life: a player of the violin, an owner of horses and cows, a square dancer, an usher at church, a lover of classic country music, and always took an interest in cars. He was a creative innovator and problem-solver, always willing to learn something new. He loved spending time by the water, especially the ocean and Lake Murray.
Charles was a friend to all pets and favorited Siamese cats. He meticulously and lovingly documented his life through photos and notes, taking care to preserve the family history.
He was an endlessly devoted husband, a wonderful father, and the best Pop to his grandchildren. Most importantly, he was a follower of Jesus and lived his life as a faithful servant.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John Richard Johnson and Gerald L. Johnson Sr. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Nancy Fabrizio (Ken); his son, Chuck Johnson; his sister, Mary Carter (Brad); his grandchildren, Maria Fabrizio (Michael Powelson), Dylan Fabrizio (Clare), Nick Fabrizio (Lydia), and Skye Johnson; and five beloved great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held in the chapel at Lexington Baptist Church on Monday, July 20, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeside Assisted Living for their love and care for Charles in his final months.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for you to donate to Pawmetto Lifeline.
