In Loving Memory

Donald Francis Weathers

Born in Columbia, S.C. in 1938, he was the son of the late Samuel Hugo and Frances Eliza Bull Weathers.

He was a 1956 graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School. Don attended the University of South Carolina after graduating from high school. He continued his education with the Southern Methodist College where he earned a Bachelor of Theology in 1961 and Bachelor of Arts in 1962.

He pastored churches in South Carolina and Alabama. He taught in the Southern Methodist College and later was elected Vice President of the Midsouth Conference of the Southern Methodist Church. After 13 years and thoughtful consideration he left the pastorate. Don chose to serve a growing family business, Lumber and Builders’ Supply for 22 years.

In 1977 he organized “Carolina Fans”, a travel group that traveled to support University of South Carolina athletic teams in football, baseball and basketball.

Don was a long-time member of the South Carolina Gamecock club. He held numerous leadership roles within the Lexington chapter and was recognized for several awards: including Legendary Fan of the Game in 2015. He was active in Baptist, Methodist and Nazarene churches during his life, faithfully giving of his time, talents and resources.

Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Ann Smyly Weathers, daughters Leigh Weathers McCorkle (Michael), Suzanne Weathers Adams (Kevin), brothers Bill Weathers (Nancy), John Weathers (Dolores) and sister Sara Burton, grandchildren Madison Adams and Beckham Adams (Caroline), David McCorkle (Jennifer), Chris McCorkle (Alex), great grandchildren Madison McCorkle, Olivia McCorkle, Ava McCorkle and Asher McCorkle and beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Miriam Stephenson.
