John David Powlas

In Loving Memory

John "David" Powlas, age 71, exchanged this earthly body for paradise on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. A son of Johnny Powlas and Ida Sue Powlas. He was born on April 10, 1953, in Branchville, SC. He was the husband of Anne Horton Powlas (predeceased) for over 47 years.

He attended Branchville schools and graduated from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. David decided to serve the Lord as a preacher of the Gospel, he served several congregations in South Carolina and Florida before his health declined. He was a member of Harrison Road Church of Christ.

David will most certainly be remembered for his wit and dry sense of humor. Always ready with a joke and laugh.

He leaves behind for the moment his brother, Charles Powlas (Kerry) of Aiken, SC and their children, April Powlas-Giaffis (James) of Aiken, Joshua Powlas of Crab Orchard, KY. Jeanine Hopson of Wagener, SC, and Tina Bishop of Tallahassee, FL;  his sister-in-law and great support, Karen Horton Melton (Johnny) of Danville, VA, their children, Jamie Melton, Carrie Anne Mundie (Justin), and Jonathan Melton (Kerrie); a brother-in-law, Alan Horton (Laurie) of SugarLand, TX;  nieces and nephews, Isaiah, Maggie-Grace and Connor Giaffis, Rylie Gayle Melton, Owen-Kate and Harrison Mundie, Olivia Smith (Christian) and Megan Horton.

The family would like to thank Carlyle Senior care for the care they provided for over the past 2 years.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Rd. Lexington, SC beginning at 11:00am. Family will receive friends from 10:00am until time of service. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Celestial Memorial Gardens.
