Jon Blakely Hensley

Jon Blakely Hensley, 83, Gaffney, SC passed away peacefully on Friday May 22nd at home beside his loving wife.

Born April 27th, 1943 in Columbia, Jon was the son of Fred Grover Hensley and Louise Easterling. After graduating high school, Jon enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962 and proudly served his country for four years as an Air Policeman.

Following his honorable discharge, Jon built a career as a Line Technician for Bellsouth where he retired. Jon was a man who found peace and joy in the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting and walking through the woods – a passion he carried ever since his teenage years. He had a deep love for family history and genealogy research and passing those stories on for future generations to learn from. Above all; Jon was a devoted Christian, loving husband, father to his children, and grandfather to his grandchildren. Jon was a dedicated member of North Point Church in Gaffney, SC. He will be remembered for his wisdom, quiet strength, love of family, appreciation for the simple things in life, and most of all the footprints he left behind.

He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Mary; his children Sonya, Ashley, and Mariel; his brother Dick; his sisters Peggy and Judy; and his grandchildren Roni, Lulu, Mohammad, Israa, Ayah, Hamza, Jace, Ben, Blakely, and John who brought him immense happiness to his life. He was preceded in death by his son Paul.

A funeral service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, May 26th at 3:00PM at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Lexington. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Palmetto Patriot’s Home, Gaffney, SC.
