Juanita Garris Moore
February 26, 1935 — May 13, 2026
Juanita Garris Moore, 91, formerly of Myrtle Beach, entered the Church Triumphant on May 13, 2026. She was born in Pitt County, N.C., on February 26, 1935, to the late Pauline and Corey Garris.
After graduating with honors from Ayden High School, she attended Greensboro College, then completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at East Carolina University. Juanita earned a Master of Education with a Minor in English at the University of North Carolina, where she met the love of her life, Charlie Moore.
Following a number of years teaching school, she pursued a Library Science degree and, upon relocating to Myrtle Beach in 1972, became the librarian at Myrtle Heights Elementary, moving to Myrtle Beach Primary when it opened.
Juanita worked tirelessly as a member/officer of the Horry County Education Association, the S.C. Education Association, and the National Education Association, advocating for education professionals. She traveled statewide and across the country in this endeavor. After her retirement, Juanita served as librarian for First United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful member of the M.D. Moore Sunday school class.
Juanita’s greatest joy was her family. Especially beloved were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored and spoiled. She was blessed with amazing, loyal friends, and she cherished the moments they shared.
A passionate Tar Heel fan, Juanita rarely missed watching Carolina play basketball and was happy to help the officials call games through the television screen.
Juanita is survived by brother Michael Garris (Doris) of N.C., daughter Charlene Adelstone (Rod) of Conway, S.C., granddaughters Hayley Harrison (Cain) of Gilbert, S.C., and Madeline Adelstone of Conway, great grands Aubrey, Bentley, and Maci of Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Moore, daughter Paula Moore, and grandson Lee Adelstone.
The family is grateful to Hayley for the loving care she gave her grandmother during her last months and to the saints at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach who treated Juanita like family during her years there. She loved you so!
Visitation will be held in the parlor of First Methodist Church, 901 N.
