Michael Shanon Welborn

October 21, 1973 — December 16, 2024

Michael Shanon Welborn, lovingly known as Mike to all his family and friends, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, in Lexington, SC, at the age of 51. Born on October 21, 1973, in Anderson, SC, Mike spent his life lighting up every room he walked into with his infectious smile and boundless energy.

We're gathering to remember Mike at a memorial service that will be held at NewSpring Church, 657 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC, on Saturday, December 21, at 12 noon. Before the service, a visitation will take place at the same location from 10 am to 12 pm, where friends and family can share their fond memories of Mike.

Mike was a dedicated parts specialist at Blanchard Machinery, where his expertise was rivaled only by his willingness to lend a hand or share a good joke. More than anything else, Mike cherished his wife, Laura, and their children, Rachael, Steven, and Rebecca. He was a family man through and through, always putting his loved ones first and ensuring that their household was filled with laughter, joy, and the antics of a devoted Clemson Tigers fan.

Mike enjoyed his guitar and playing for others, often blending his love of Elvis Presley hits with tales of his latest culinary adventure inspired by his passion as a foodie. He always loved an adventure, and yes, he never missed an opportunity to indulge his sweet tooth with some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

At NewSpring Church, Mike found joy in serving on the communion team, demonstrating his deep love for the Lord. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with those around him.

Mike leaves behind his devoted parents, Mel and Brenda Welborn, who instilled in him the values of kindness and community that he carried throughout his life; His loving wife Laura and their children, Rachael, Steven, and Rebecca – all who he loved deeply.

Mike's untimely departure leaves a void that words cannot fill, yet, for those who knew him, he will forever remain in the laughter shared, the music played, and the myriad of small, joyful moments that define a life well lived. As we remember Mike, let’s not say goodbye, but "see you later," keeping him alive in our hearts and stories.

His family invites you to join in celebrating his remarkable journey, remembering the laughter, love, and light he brought to each day.
