In Loving Memory

Lt. Col. William “Gene” Eugene Rabon “Papa”, 97, of West Columbia, South Carolina passed away February 5, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1927 in Aynor, South Carolina to William Thomas and Viola Todd Rabon. Gene fought in the army during World War II, graduated from the University of South Carolina, and then served in the Air Force for 20 years. During his service, he was stationed across the United States, Japan, Vietnam, and Thailand. After retiring, he worked at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for 20 years. Even with a fulfilling career, Gene's proudest achievement was his loving family. He was a charismatic and gracious man who never hesitated to help those in need. Papa spent a life well-lived serving his country, providing much needed advice, and never failing to make us laugh.

Gene is preceded by his wife of 68 years, Margaret. He is survived by his children, Wayne E. Rabon (Marilyn), Glenn C. Rabon, Sharen Rabon Stoertz (Clifford); grandchildren, Lewis (Natalie), Kristen, Callie, Halie; great grandchildren, Graham and Tucker.

The family will receive friends at Gene’s church, Northside Baptist Church, in Lexington on February 9, 2025 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Funeral services will follow visitation at 2:00 PM at Northside Baptist Church of Lexington. Interment will be in Woodridge Memorial Park.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Laura and Lisa Campbell and all of Gene's amazing caregivers.
