Doris M. Meakim of Stony Point, NY, originally from Trenton, NJ passed away peacefully on January 29, 2020. She was born on July 7, 1927 to Walter and Julia (Swinnerton) Russell. Doris is predeceased by her loving husband Joseph Meakim, whom she married on May 29, 1948 in Nyack, NY. Doris worked for 17 years in food service at Letchworth Village in Thiells. She loved to write poems and short stories. She also loved to read and crochet. She was an avid fan of Jeopardy and the New York Boulders Baseball Team. She was a faithful member of the Crossroads Church in Thiells.
Doris is survived by her children Ruth and her husband William Mackey of Spring Valley, NY, Russell of Spring Valley, NY, James and his partner Christine Bloise of Stony Point, NY, Timothy of Highland Falls, NY, and Thomas of Spring Valley, NY. She is predeceased by infant son John and daughter in law Ina Bruntel Meakim. Her grandchildren Lisa Meakim Nieves, Russell Meakim Jr and his partner Ren, James J Meakim and his wife Katrina Zerilli, Steven L Bennett and his partner Karol Keeler, Joseph D Meakim and Stephanie Bloise. Her greatgrandchildren Victoria Nieves, Miguel Nieves, Azalea Zerilli and Aubrey Meakim.
The Family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday Feb. 6th from 4 - 8 PM at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY. Religious services will be on Fri Feb. 7th at 11 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial of Ashes will follow in the F. Loescher Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY.
In lieu of flowers, if anyone is interested in making a donation, it can be made to the Walter Hoving Home, 40 Walter Hoving Rd, Garrison, NY 10524.
