Dorothy Elizabeth Diederich, of Stony Point NY died on Monday May 22, 2023 in Marietta OH. Born on August 18, 1931 to Herman and Marion Schaffner of Flushing, Queens NY, she was 91. Dorothy sang professionally at a very young age and was one of the four Sapphires on the Alan Dale Show. Through show business she met the love of her life and husband of 66 years Michael David Diederich, Sr. They moved to Stony Point, NY in 1959 where they raised their children, and owned and operated the “Fisherman’s Dude Ranch” then “Dietrich’s Swim Club” from 1963 to 1989. Dorothy’s pride and joy were her family, her children, her grandchildren and many pets. Dorothy partnered with her husband in their “Dietrich and Diane” marionette act and continued singing socially with the Stuart W. Smith Singers of NJ, the The Hudsoneers and Harmony on the Hudson.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, siblings and her loving husband Michael. Dorothy is survived by their six children: Michael Diederich Jr, Debbie (Tim Lutner) Diederich, Sharon (Chris) Shoop, Diane (Ken) Tuttle, Dottie Diederich, David (Jackie) Diederich and daughter-in-law Brigitte Gulliver. Dorothy was the loving grandmother of thirteen grandchildren: Ryan (Michelle) Shoop, Rob (Bernardo) Gugliuzzo, Adam (Kelsey) Shoop, Russell Tuttle, Patrick Diederich, Rachel (Paul) Shoop, Victoria Diederich, Holly Tuttle, Abby Ullman, Sean Diederich, James Diederich, William Diederich and Olivia Diederich. Dorothy is also survived by three great grandchildren: Hannah, Abigail and Ethan Shoop.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
