Dorothy Luella Hewitt passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, June 4, 2023. She was 89 years old. Dorothy was born at home on November 25, 1933 in West Haverstraw, N.Y. to Elizabeth and William Babcock. She married her only love, Frederick Joseph Hewitt Sr. on April 9, 1950. They then moved to Garnerville, N.Y. where they raised their 5 children. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Frederick as well as her son, Frederick J. Hewitt Jr., spouse of Peggy Hewitt, and her son-in-law William C. Peterson, spouse of Jeannie Peterson and her son-in-law, Arthur L. Starke Sr., spouse of Terri A. Starke. Dorothy is survived by 4 of her children, her daughter Jeannie, her son Rick, daughter-in-law Darlene, daughter Terri, and her son Robbie. Dorothy is also survived by her 12 cherished grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Dorothy was the heart of the family, a housewife and mother, loved cooking and baking, enjoyed time with her family and friends, especially during the holidays, which were always celebrated in her home where everyone was welcomed with open arms. Dorothy loved her family as well as her pets of which she had many. She enjoyed numerous hobbies, loved gardening, ceramics, painting, wallpapering, shopping and watching her Hallmark movies. She touched the hearts of those who knew her and will be missed by all.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at T.J. McGowan & Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, N.Y. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 10:00AM at St. Peters Church, Haverstraw, N.Y., followed by internment at St. Peters Cemetery, Haverstraw, N.Y.
