Fernanda Monteiro
b. April 5, 1932
With unimaginable heartbreak, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our extraordinary matriarch, born April 5, 1932 in Barcelos, Portugal. Though she graced this world for 93 unforgettable years, her unexpected departure came as a shock and has left our family stunned and shattered. A pain we are still struggling to understand.
Her life was a tapestry woven across continents, decades, and generations. Her soul always belonged to Portugal, where she was born and shaped by the traditions, culture, and roots that defined her spirit and fierce pride.
Her heart always belonged to Africa, where she moved in 1962 to Mozambique with the love of her life during his military service, and where she welcomed her two daughters into the world. Creating a life filled with resilience, vibrancy, and community.
Her universe — her entire world was in America, where she arrived in 1978 and built a life centered around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, who are her joy and her legacy. Surrounded by those who adore her.
She remained youthful, radiant, and full of life — elegant, vibrant, and unmistakably herself in every season of her 93 years.
Her stories, songs, and the sound of her voice shape us. Her memories guide us, her wisdom grounds us, and her love continues to hold us together. She is the keeper of our history, the heart of our family, and the soft place we always return to. To be loved by her is to be cherished deeply.
Her passing leaves an immeasurable void. Yet her memory will travel forever across our tapestry, carried by the people she adored and the generations she’s built.
A Mass will be held at St.Gregory Barbarigo Parish located at 25 Cinder Road, Garnerville, NY 10923 on Friday December 5th at 11:00am. We ask all who knew her to hold their loved ones a little closer and longer.
She is eternally loved, eternally missed, and forever ours.
