Francis D Monaghan,87, of Stony Point died Monday September 11,2023 at Ten Broeck Nursing and Rehabilitation in Lake Katrine, NY. Born May 19,1936 in Manhattan to Frank and Ellen Kelly Monaghan of the Bronx. Brother to the late James E. Monaghan, a Christian Brother. He graduated from Rice High School in 1954. Frank joined the Navy and served on the USS Wisconsin Battleship. He married Joan Muller in April of 1959. They had 3 children, Michael and Ellen of Saugerties and Daniel of Scottsdale AZ, 3 grandchildren Sean, Anthony, and Michael and 2 great grandchildren Rory and Jasper. He worked for Pespi Cola as a marketing executive. In later years he worked at Jawonio as a counselor in finding jobs for the disabled. Frank and Joan, his wife of 64 years, lived on Central Highway in Stony Point for 48 years. Always ready to serve others in the community he was president of the North Rockland Lions Club and a member of the American Legion Post 1600 in Pomona. He was a parishioner of St Gregory Barbarigo Church. Traveling, music, movies and spending time with family and friends were his passions. While he may have been cared for in his later years in Ulster County his heart will forever be in Stony Point.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023 from 3pm - 7pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, 11am. at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville, followed by interment at Fred Loescher Veterans Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: North Rockland Lions Club, P.O. Box 3, Garnerville, NY 10923.
