Frank J DeGroat Jr (Chief) passed away on October 18, 2022. He was 77 years old. Frank was born on August 12, 1945,to Frank and Angelina DeGroat. Frank married the love of his life, Lois, on October 12, 1968. They moved to Garnerville, NY where they raised their son Frank III. Frank was a carpenter by trade and worked at Bear Mountain, eventually moving to NRCSD where he became supervisor of the maintenance garage. Frank was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved going to Lake Champlain with his best friend Stan Meketa to catch smallmouth bass. Frank and Lois loved vacationing with their best friends Stan and Cathy Meketa. He also loved spending time with family and friends at his home in the Adirondacks. Frank was a member of Vol Hose Dept 23 for 46 years. During his time there, he was an ex-chief, friend to all, and mentor to others. His brothers at Vol Hose were a huge part of his life and they meant the world to him. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren Devon and Reilly. Frank will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lois, and his son, Frank (Siobain). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Devon and Reilly. Family will receive friends on Friday October 21 from 4:00 to 8:00 at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. Mass will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 10:00 AM at St. Peters Church in Haverstraw. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Volunteer Hose 30 Railroad Ave., West Haverstraw, NY 10993.
