The Laverty Family sadly announces the passing of James D. Laverty Of Garnerville NY at the age of 94. Jim was born in Coleraine County Derry, Ireland On March 28th 1927. Jim served time in the Royal Air Force the immigrated to the United States where he enlisted in the US Army proudly serving his new country that he loved and saw active duty during the Korean War. In 1955, Jim joined the NYPD and diligently worked his way up to Lieutenant. Jim led the anti -crime unit in the 47th Precinct, The Bronx, NY until retirement in 1988. Jim is survived by his wife Mary, the love of his life. also survived by his children, His son, Dennis (Kathy) Laverty, of PA. His Daughter Brenda Laverty of Haverstraw NY and his son, Matthew (Deborah) Laverty of Greenwood Lake, NY. also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He adored his Siamese cat Tara and his parrot Gyppo who has over the years has taken on his Irish brogue. Jim loved to write short stories and memoirs. He loved to till around in his garden and loved to be outdoors.
