John J. Byron, of Garnerville, passed away on November 18, 2018. He was 90.
John was born to James and Louise (Mayrer) in the Bronx. He served his country as a Marine in World War II. In 1953, he married his wife Patricia (Webber). John worked for NY Telephone. He was a Life Member of the Elks, Leo Laders American Legion, and was a founding member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville.
John loved to jog and walk. He was a fixture in the North Rockland parks where he did his daily three miles. He also enjoyed sailing, hiking, playing golf, playing the piano, and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife Patricia, his children: Patty (Chris) Szwed of Michigan, Kathy (Ray) Friedlander of Brewster, John (Rosa) of Garnerville, and Tommy of Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jimmy, Karen, Dan, Laura, Kyle and CJ, by his great-granddaughter Vivien, many nieces, nephews, and many wonderful lifelong neighbors and friends from the top of the hill.
John was predeceased by his two sisters: Sister Ann Louise, O.P. and Ann Augustoni, and four brothers: William, George, Fred and James.
John’s family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, November 23, 2018, from 3-7 PM at T.J. McGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for John on Saturday, November 24 at 10 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville, with interment to follow at F.W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may donate in John’s memory to St. Gregory Barbarigo Church.
