In Loving Memory of Jose Javier Sotomayor

January 2, 1936 – July 8, 2026

With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Jose Javier Sotomayor, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, beloved brother, and the proud patriarch of our family.

Born in Peru on January 2, 1936, Javier was a man of remarkable courage, resilience, and determination. Alongside his brother, Hugo, he was among the first in his family to come to the United States, paving the way for future generations. Through hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication, they created new opportunities and laid the foundation for the family that followed. His journey was one of perseverance, hope, and an unwavering commitment to building a better future for those he loved.

Javier’s work ethic was unmatched. He dedicated 15 years to Buitoni, where he earned the respect of those around him through his hard work and dedication. Later, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening his own Peruvian restaurant, Rincón Peruano, a business that brought him tremendous pride. More than a restaurant, it was a place where he shared his culture, welcomed everyone like family, and expressed his love through authentic Peruvian cuisine and warm hospitality.

Javier had a gift for bringing people together. He loved to sing and was truly the life of every gathering. His laughter, warm smile, and joyful spirit filled every room he entered. One of his favorite songs was “My Way” by Frank Sinatra, a song that perfectly reflected the life he lived, with dignity, determination, and on his own terms.

Above all else, Javier’s greatest joy was his family. He was the heart of our family, our beloved patriarch. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Guadalupe, and a loving father to Christian, Vanessa, and Stephanie. He treasured every moment spent with his family, and nothing brought him greater happiness than seeing those he loved together. His wisdom, strength, guidance, and unconditional love shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren and will continue to do so for generations to come.

Javier is survived by his beloved wife, Guadalupe; his loving children, Christian, Vanessa, and Stephanie; and son-in-law Dagoberto Lopez; his cherished grandchildren, Christal, Lucas, Mila, Christian Jr., and Lilianni; his dear siblings, Alicia Sotomayor, Tomas Sotomayor, Nancy Sotomayor, Sonia Sotomayor, Hugo Sotomayor, Dora Atuncar, and Irma Bates Atuncar; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Corina Semino; his brother, Alberto Sotomayor; and his sister, Elizabeth Atuncar.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Javier’s love, laughter, music, and unwavering devotion to his family will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy is not only found in the life he built, but in the opportunities, he created, the traditions he passed down, and the love he instilled in every generation that follows.

He lived life with courage, generosity, and an open heart. Like the lyrics of his beloved song, My Way, he faced life’s challenges with strength, grace, and determination. His voice may be silent, but his legacy will continue to echo through the family he loved so deeply.
