Joseph Harry Smith passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving wife of 53 years.
Joseph was born in Suffern, NY on October 23rd, 1947 to Julia (Holt) and Belding Smith. He graduated from Haverstraw High School and was a skilled carpenter by trade.
Joseph proudly served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force as Staff Sargeant and was stationed at U-Tapao Air Base in Thailandwhere he worked on B-52 Bombers. In Thailand he met and married the love of his life, Noi Khongdecha, and they resided in West Haverstraw and Garnerville for 53 years.
As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a fan of the NY Yankees and NY Rangers. Joseph was the Foreman for the Town of Haverstraw until the mid-80’s when he went into business with his brother, owning and operating J+R Backhoe Service.
Predeceased by his parents, Julia and Belding Smith and by his younger brother Richard A. Smith SR. He is survived by his wife Noi (Molly) Smith, daughter Theresa (Michael) Bruen, granddaughters Julia, Evelyn, Megan Bruen, sister-in-law Patricia Smith, Aunt Virginia Holt Giuttari, nephews Richard A. Smith JR. (Marion), and Eric Smith SR., family members Robert, Reinaldo, Valai Silva, many cousins and many friends.
Visitation Service will be held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023 at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY 4PM-8PM. Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, September 21st, 2023 at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY, at 11AM with interment at Mount Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw, NY immediately following.
