Margaret Teetsel
d. Jan 7, 2019
Margaret (Peg) Teetsel of Haverstraw passed away on January 7, 2019 surrounded by her family. Peg was predeceased by her parents Bernard and Margaret McConville and her beloved husband of 50 years, Guy (Dick) Teetsel. Peg loved nothing more than her family, her greatest source of pride.
Peg is survived by her 5 children: Michael Teetsel (Diane) of Rochester VT; Maureen Hunter of Mendham NJ; Richard Teetsel of Hummelstown PA; Jeanne Galeota (Neil) of Brewster NY; and Margaret Scheinert (Richard) of Wyckoff NJ. Lovingly known as Mimi, she is also survived by her 10 cherished grandchildren: Jessica (Scott), Rebecca, Emily, Alexander, Justin, Matthew, Timothy, Melissa, Vinny and Matt.
Peg was born in New York City in 1934. She was a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, including Pearl River, Stony Point, and Narrowsburg. She was a longtime employee of the North Rockland School District, working as a nurse and then a special education teacher. Peg was valedictorian of her class at St. Cecelia’s High School in Englewood NJ, and a proud graduate of Georgetown University. She also earned multiple graduate degrees from Columbia University and the College of New Rochelle. In her retirement, Peg attended endless art classes, was active in her church and community and traveled extensively around the globe with her closest friends. There was no family milestone or achievement Peg ever missed, most importantly for her grandchildren.
Peg was known by all as a kind and gentle soul, a loving mother and grandmother, a fiercely loyal friend and a devout Catholic. She will be greatly missed, and we will fully celebrate her life.
Visitation will be held at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 North Central Highway, Garnerville, NY 10923 on Friday, January 11 from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Peg’s life will be held at the Church of St, Anthony, 34 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY 10954 on Saturday, January 12 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Peg’s honor to Marian Shrine, Stony Point NY.
