Mary Elizabeth Green Fahy
d. Apr 9, 2019
Mary Elizabeth Green Fahy, 61, a lifelong resident of Garnerville, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on April 9, 2019, after a brief and courageous battle against cancer. She was the centerpiece of her family, who lovingly cared for her throughout her illness.
Mary was born on November 19th, 1957 in Yonkers, NY to Mary Fallon Green and Joseph B. Green. Shortly after, the family relocated to Garnerville where Mary attended St. Gregory Barbarigo School. A 1975 graduate of North Rockland High School, Mary worked at the Department of Social Services before moving over to the North Rockland Central School District’s Purchasing department, where she spent the last 20 years. Mary enjoyed her job, more so the incredible lifelong friends she made there over the years. Mary’s greatest source of pride and joy were her four children and two grandchildren, whom her heart revolved around.
Mary will be greatly missed by the love of her life Eduardo Melendez. Eddie and Mary spent many years together - celebrating life events, traveling, and simply enjoying each other’s company. She will be dearly missed by her beloved children, daughters Helen and Bridget, and sons John and Liam. Mary is also survived by her treasured grandchildren, Giuliana and Declan Fahy. Additionally, Mary leaves behind her brother, Joseph Green, sister-in-law Deirdre Green, and many wonderful close cousins, nieces, nephews and countless amazing friends.
Mary embraced life, and was a great reader who traveled the world with family and friends. She loved the beach and any time an opportunity presented itself, she could be found at her two heavens on earth, Breezy Point, NY and Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Mary was a woman of great faith who gave and received love freely. She relished in hearing of her family and friends' accomplishments and was always ready with a compliment, a word of wisdom or a wise crack. Mary was blessed with an phenomenal life and the many whom loved and were loved by her will continue to be testament to that.
Visitation will be held at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, Garnerville, NY on Thursday April 11, 2019 from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM. A Mass of the Resurrection for Mary will be celebrated on Friday, April 12, 2019, at 10:30 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville, NY.
