Mary Jane DeGroat of Garnerville, died peacefully at home on November 5, 2019. She was 90 years old.
Mary Jane was born in Haverstraw, New York, June 23, 1929 to Charles and Mary Rose. She graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1947, where she met the love of her life, John F. DeGroat. They married on February 5, 1950 and had three sons. Mary Jane worked at St. Agatha’s Home for Boys, The Dellwood Country Club and at Letchworth Village before becoming a full-time homemaker. She loved traveling - family vacations to Asbury Park and then Cape May, New Jersey; her favorite was Aruba, as well as many cruises around the Caribbean. Her hobbies included crocheting, scrap-booking and collectibles, especially everything Betty Boop. She enjoyed watching Dancing With The Stars and loved the Argentine Tango. She was devoted to her family and friends and will be missed tremendously.
Mary Jane was pre-deceased by her husband John and her son Rick. She is survived by her sons John R. of Garnerville; Roger J. and his wife, Laurie of Monroe, NY; her daughter-in-law Joanne of Dingmans Ferry; her granddaughter Jennifer of Dingmans Ferry; her granddaughter Jaclyn of Hendersonville, Tennessee; her great-grandson Trevor; and her sister Barbara Rose Thomas of Nanuet, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends Sunday, November 10th at TJ McGowan sons Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A short service at 10:30 am on Monday, November 11th, will be followed immediately by interment at Mt. Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Hospice of Rockland.
