Thomas Joseph O'Connor passed away February 2, 2024 peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was the partner of Janet McGeever for 15 years. He leaves daughters Christine (Brian) Lawrence, Jennifer O'Connor, Megan (Richard) Cooper; sons Kevin and Thomas (Amanda) O'Connor. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Rory (Elizabeth), Shane and Corinne O'Connor, Makayla and Jimmy Wilson and Zion Cooper. Great-Grandfather to Eleanor and Emerson O'Connor and Khloe and Kirk Vera.
He was born on May 29, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York. Son of the late Thomas and Cecelia (Reilly) and pre-deceased by sisters Delores, Jean, Joan and Josephine. He was a graduate of Trinity High School in Brooklyn, New York. A United States Marine Corps Veteran who proudly served his coutry in the Infantry Division from 1958-1962. He further pursued his education under the G.I. Bill. His grandson Gunnery Sergeant Rory O'Connor is actively serving in the United States Marine Corps in San Diego, CA. Grandson Lance Corporal Shane O'Connor is also a United States Marine Corps Veteran.
He worked at United Parcel Service and then went on to become a Teamster Trustee Business Agent for 25 years with Local 804 Queens, New York.
Dad was the Drill Sergeant of our famous family camping trips...which had the best family campfires, stories, laughs, etc. and lots of smores, grilled cheese, Hobo pies, and of course coffee! To know Tom was to love him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 4pm-8pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY 10923. Mass will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, 11am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, 25 Cinder Road, Garnerville, NY 10923 . A private burial with military honors will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Tunnels to Towers, and Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
