It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine C. Zarriello (nee Brophy). Catherine was born August 29, 1930 in Grassy Point, New York to Michael Francis (Frank) Brophy and Julia A. Brophy (Plunkett).
She was deeply loved by her children Michael (Wendy), Julia Babcock (Robert deceased), Maribeth Bertolino (David), and Daniel (Patricia).
Catherine worked in the restaurant industry for more than 50 years. Upon retirement, she volunteered her time at St. Peter’s Parish in Haversraw, N.Y. until the age of 90.
Catherine was predeceased by her loving husband, Sullivan “Sully” Zarriello in 1980 and by her brothers and sisters, Mary F. , Patrick, Ann, Richard, Francis, James, Vincent, Julia, Joseph and Mary T.
She was a devout catholic and very proud of her Irish heritage and loved her independence. Catherine enjoyed traveling and visited Ireland, Italy and Japan. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Julia, Keith, Scott, Kerri, Vincent, Lindsay, Colleen, Justin, Andrew, Megan and Kyle; and 11 great-grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Kinley, Jonathan, Luca, Sullivan (Sully), Berklie, Callen, Bryce, Brennan, and William; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Haverstraw, NY on Monday, December 19, from 4pm-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 10am at St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s Church in Haverstraw, NY followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Catherine’s name to St. Peter’s St. Mary’s Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
