Janine Mary Griffin, 72, of West Haverstraw, NY, passed away Friday, December 29th, 2023 with her daughters by her side. Janine was born in Haverstraw on May 19th, 1951. As a child, she attended St. Peter’s Parochial School and later graduated from Ladycliffe Academy in Mohegan Lake in 1969. She was predeceased by her parents, John Emmett and Marie (Scunda) Griffin.
She was survived by her loving children, Kimberly Brooks and her husband Michael of Arlington, TX, Staci Moriarty and her husband Daniel of West Haverstraw, NY, and Gregory Humphrey and his wife Lori of Cumming, GA; her 10 grandchildren Gabriella and her husband Richard, Angelica, Mickenna, Michael, Daniel, Nina, Owen, Reese, Joseph, and Christopher. She is also survived by her 3 siblings, Deborah Smith and her husband James, John Emmett Griffin, Jr. and his wife Rosemarie, and William Griffin and his wife Vicki. She also leaves behind countless cousins, nieces, nephews, her close friends Patricia and Joseph Hickey, and many lifelong friends.
Janine was a devoted mother to her 3 children and a loving Nonna to her 10 grandchildren. She loved spending her life with her family and friends at her beloved home on Mackey Court in West Haverstraw where she hosted many family occasions, holidays, and gatherings over the years. Janine enjoyed gardening, both at her home and the gardens of her children. She loved living and spending her life in her hometown and enjoyed many evenings at Ocean Empire in Pomona with her brother, Emmett and her closest friends. For 45 years she worked at Schultz Pharmacy in Garnerville where each day she interacted with her beloved North Rockland Community. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in Haverstraw where she was baptized, confirmed and wed. In later years she attended the 5pm mass on Saturday’s with her grandchildren and neighbors.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, January 5th, 2024, at 10am by the Reverend Carlos Germosen. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Haverstraw on Thursday, January 4th, 2024 from 4pm-8pm.
